Thank you,
2008 Trash Bash
Volunteers!

On May 17, 2008, over 100 hardworking volunteers descended upon Econfina Creek and its surrounding trails to take part in the 2nd Annual Econfina Creek Trash Bash!  Nearly one ton of trash was removed from this beautiful creek, springs, trails, and creek banks!

Field Trip Opportunity for High School
Science Classes

The Friends of St. Andrew Bay (FSAB) is offering a unique educational opportunity for public and private high school science classes.  We are providing guided tours of important ecological sites in the county to give students a hands-on experience in environmental science.   We are able to offer the tours to local schools at no charge thanks to grant funding provided by the Elizabeth Ordway Dunn Foundation and donations from private citizens.

St. Joe, The National Marine Fisheries Service and  Gulf Coast Community College have partnered with FSAB  for these field trips. Various field trip locations are available, and are dependent upon available time and weather conditions. Field trip sites include:

bullet

St. Joe  RiverCamps Development. (Hwy. 388): St. Joe guides discuss land management, restoration and the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, along with guided tours of Crooked Creek as well as the surrounding pine forests and wetlands, focusing on ecological restoration and management.

bullet

Coastal Complex Tour The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and Gulf Coast Community College (GCCC) are  providing an 11-acre site for educational tours on St. Andrew Bay next to NMFS (Delwood Beach Dr.).  This undisturbed site provides an opportunity to discuss issues related to both uplands and marine environments.  Depending on staff availability, the NMFS facility may be available for tours as well.

bullet

A FSAB salt marsh restoration project off Moonlight Bay Drive in West Bay.  Tour guides will talk about the history of the site and West Bay in general, what happened to the site ecologically, and the work that FSAB is doing at the site now.  Guides will also discuss native plant and animal species that can be found at the site.

Funding for transportation and other costs is provided by a grant from the Elizabeth Ordway Dunn Foundation. To schedule a field trip for your class for the 2008-2009 school year, please contact Corrine McElwain at 850-215-5595 or email at cmcelwain.best@knology.net.
