Administrative Support Team (AST)

The
Administrative Support Team, or the AST, consists of paid employees who aid the
Steering Committee in completing the Friends of St. Andrew Bay mission, as described in the ecosystem
management plan, The St. Andrew Bay Ecosystem, Our Environment. The AST
also supports the work of BEST Inc. the non-profit financial arm of Friends of
St. Andrew Bay. The
AST includes the Executive Director, the Grant Writer, and the Administrative
Assistant.

The Executive
Director is Michael Brim. He joined the AST after nearly 31 years with the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service as a marine ecologist. For 12 years he was on the
adjunct faculty of Gulf Coast Community College and taught The Sea Life of
St. Andrew Bay and other courses. His AST duties include expansion of the
Friends of St. Andrew Bay partnership to include more users of the bay, development of
management relationships with those partners, raising funds for the Friends of
St. Andrew Bay 1000
Trust, encouraging new and expanded leadership, and general program and AST
management.

Friends of St. Andrew Bay’s
Administrative Assistant is Alice Guay. She works with other members of the AST
and assists them in their duties, as well as performs administrative tasks such
as answering the phones, maintaining Friends of St. Andrew Bay files, greeting guests, and
communicating with Friends of St. Andrew Bay members through the Friends of St.
Andrew Bay Distribution List. Alice is
currently building the Friends of St. Andrew Bay Volunteer Data Base and will be
Friends of St. Andrew Bay’s point of
contract for all volunteers.

The Grant
Writer/Administrator is Corrine McElwain. She works with the AST and BEST’s
volunteers, The Friends of St. Andrew Bay (FSAB), to develop grant proposals
for projects that have been approved by steering committee. She maintains a
database of potential funding sources for FSAB projects, notifies the steering
committee of upcoming funding opportunities, and works with FSAB project
managers to prepare reports to grant-making organizations. Corrine also is the
point of contact for our school outreach program, which offers eco-tours to
secondary science classes. |
