Volunteer with
The Friends
of St. Andrew Bay!
If
you want to become more active in restoring and maintaining the biodiversity
and beauty of St. Andrew Bay and its watershed, consider joining the Friends
of St. Andrew Bay Volunteer Team!
Volunteering for Friends of St. Andrew Bay and
our partners can be as easy as submitting a photo for the Friends of St.
Andrew Bay Newsletter, or as complex as scuba diving or computer
programming! Whatever your talents, volunteer opportunities are available
through Friends of St. Andrew Bay that will allow you to participate in
preserving and maintaining the beauty and biodiversity of the St. Andrew Bay
Watershed for generations to come.
Check here regularly for volunteer
opportunities based upon the Action Plans outlined in our Ecosystem
Management Program,
“The St. Andrew Bay Ecosystem, Our Environment”.
How you can help:
Current Volunteer Opportunities are listed below.
If you see something that
sparks your interest, please complete and mail or fax to us the
volunteer application, or call us at

Storm Drain
Marking
Storm
drains and drainage ditches are located through out the St. Andrew Bay
Watershed. When it rains, the water that runs down along the gutters and
into our storm drains goes directly into our local streams, ditches, and
bayous and eventually into St. Andrew Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
Whatever is dumped into our storm drains winds up in the bay and gulf,
and negatively impacts water quality!
In an
effort to help educate residents and visitors of the importance of the
keeping storm drains free of trash and pollutants, the Friends of St.
Andrew Bay has partnered with Bay County and University of Florida IFAS
Extension Office to place storm drain markers (like the one at right),
above neighborhood storm drains.
Volunteers are needed to help place the No Dumping markers on
local storm drains. Neighborhood teams are being formed, and if you are
interested in being a part of this important
education and outreach
effort, please contact Alice Guay by
e-mail, or
by calling 850-215-5590.

Plant Nursery Helpers
The Friends of St. Andrew
Bay’s
Go Native!

the St. Andrew Bay Center to provide plants that are native to Bay
County to consumers. Volunteers are needed who can repot plants and pull
weeds on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are interested in working in the
nursery, please contact Lisa Keppner by
e-mail or by calling 850-769-6247.

Native Plant
Rescue
With the amount of development
we are experiencing in our community, there is no doubt that a piece of
property you pass by every day is being developed. If asked, developers
will often allow native plants to be “rescued” from the site before
development begins. The Friends of St. Andrew Bay’s
Go
Native! program is in the business of rescuing
plants. If you know of any potential rescue sites or would like to
participate in our rescue efforts, please contact Lisa Keppner by
e-mail or by calling 850-769-6247.

Community Outreach
As part of our new membership and community outreach drive, we are
distributing Friends of St. Andrew Bay membership brochures at a number
of area businesses. We are looking for volunteers to take on a
distribution route in their neighborhoods and re-stock the membership
display racks once month or so. If you are interested in participating
in this new outreach effort, please contact Alice Guay by
e-mail, or
by calling 850-215-5590.
